This assignment is intended to heighten students’ observational powers, understanding and appreciation of landscape plants and ecology, by detailed mapping of a wooded area on campus. By accurately measuring and drawing the horizontal and vertical dimensions and characteristics of the topography and vegetation in their allotted study area, students gain an appreciation of the real growth patterns of various plant types and the way they interact and respond to neighbouring vegetation and built structures.
